As an assistance to our Persons with Disabilities brothers and sisters in Bayugan City, 10 wheelchairs were distributed by the City Government last September 1, 2014.
The distribution of wheelchairs was an initiative of the current President of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) and the 1st Councilor of the City, Mr. Kirk A. Asis.
According to Belen Baclayo from Wawa village, this wheelchair will be a very great help, especially in the situation of her son, Dave, who suffered from a birth defect. And she was very thankful that the government gave them this kind of help.
Armando Barrieses from Gamao village, who stayed at their house for almost 3 years, because of his situation, he was so happy when he sat in his new wheelchair.
“Daghang salamat especially kay Sir Kirk Asis, kay Mayor, Sir Jerry… dako kaayo ni pud tabang sa akoa, nga para makagawas-gawas sa among balay, diin sauna pirminte ra ko sa sulod sa balay… karon, lipay kaayo kog dako nga gitagaan ko ani nga butanga…kay para makasuroy-suroy na pud ko….makalantaw-lantaw…” (Many thanks especially to Sir Kirk Asis, to Mayor, Sir Jery… this will be a very great help to me where I can finally go out in our house, unlike in the past where I only stayed in the house… now, I am very happy that I have this thing… so that I can stroll out… and watch the outside…), he added.
Mr. Jerry Micabalo, the Person’s Disabilities Affairs Office Chairman, showed the special features of the wheelchair, in which, according to him, the wheelchair is made of fiberglass and steel tube and it has a brake and lock system where it cannot easily move and a mini tool at the footplate.
According to Mr. Micabalo, there will be another 10 wheelchairs to distribute to the different municipalities of Agusan del Sur from the NMYL.
The turnover ceremony was attended by City Vice Mayor Charles P. Anggayong, City Administrator Grace G. Asis and the City Social Welfare and Development Officer Ms. Marilou M. Aquino, who also gave their support to our PWD brothers and sisters.
